The Southwestern Regional Conference
was held in Houston, Texas, March 13-15,
2009, and hosted by Beta Pi Chapter.
The Conference got off to a great start with
the Leadership Forum with Assistant SWR
Director Charlotte Berry presiding and Past
National President Lillian Parker serving as
moderator. The theme was “21st Century
Sisterhood: A Paradigm Shift in the
Southwestern Region – Full Circle
Challenge”. Topics presented included:
"Business 101" - Gwen Barnes, "What is
Protocol?" - Pauletta Marsden Hooper,
"How to Avoid an IRS Tax Levy" - Judy
Reeves, "Chapter Budget: Everyone Should
Have One" - Talmadge M. Jacques, "Nuts
and Bolts of Membership - Where Do We
Go From Here?" - Wendy B. Jacques, and
"Presenting a Resolution" - Lillian F.
Parker. Charlotte Berry presented "Does
Attitude Really Matter - A Dialogue" which
stressed the importance of evaluating and being willing to change your attitude. Each member in attendance received the book "Attitude 101"
by John C. Maxwell. That afternoon a RUSH was hosted by Beta Pi Chapter.
The Educational Luncheon was held on Saturday with Daphne Hornbuckle, SWR Recording/Financial Secretary serving as Mistress of
Ceremony. Dr. Doris Browning-Austin, National President, was the Speaker of the hour and told us to be awake, alert, and dissatisfied at all
times. She emphasized that as an organization we can make a difference and make a change. Dr. Browning-Austin left us with these words,
"We will not move to the side, we will move up. We should be seen and be heard. We need action, action, action."
After taking care of Iota’s business for a day and a half, it was time to recognize and celebrate our accomplishments. The Awards Night

hold. Highlights of the night:
